Working on the interior design for the IT research center Beyond.co.uk proved to be a complex and challenging, but at the same time exciting task. Because of the facility’s distinctive form and function, the designers had to capture and emphasize the specific spirit of the space which the company’s employees would occupy.
The common denominator of all the functional zones in the facility is their reference to the raw, industrial form of the data center building. However, this formula has been enlivened with a number of treatments, in line with contemporary office design trends. The interiors were designed to be spacious and flexible in terms of their functionality. Where possible, rigid partitions have been avoided to allow dynamic modification of the organization of work teams in accordance with the changing needs of the company. In addition, employees have been given tools to shape the climate and practicality of their office on their own.
The tour for visitors is an interesting part of the data center’s interior. It covers the building’s most important zones and systems, presenting visitors and potential customers with their function and their specific parameters and capabilities, leading them on a structured tour. Visitors are able to learn how the facility works while they are shown step-by-step characteristic numbers, keywords and tool mockups, interspersed with sometimes amusing nods to IT-specific humor.
